Uyuni Salt Flat
The Salar de Uyuni (Uyuni Salt Flat), located some 3800 meters above sea level in the middle of the Andes in southwestern Bolivia, is the largest salt flat in the world.
The town of Uyuni, located at 3656 meters above sea level, is the starting point for all tours to the world famous salt flats. One of the flattest places in the world, a trip here feels like a journey to a strange and beautiful new planet. In fact, the Salar de Uyuni is featured in Episode 8 of the Star Wars saga, so don’t forget to bring your X-wing or TIE-Fighter for super fun photo opportunities with majestic backdrops!
Madidi National Park
One of the must-sees while traveling in South America is a trip to the Amazon jungle to get up close and personal with a plethora of wildlife. Did you know that the Amazon basin spills into parts of Bolivia? In fact, this area of the Amazon is a region full of pristine and tranquil forests. Much of it is relatively unexplored, making it the perfect, peaceful place for you to roam.
Madidi is a national park located northeast of La Paz, in the upper Amazon River basin in Bolivia. Established in 1995, it has an area of 18958 square kilometers and is one of the most biologically diverse parks in the world with 5000 to 6000 species of flora and fauna.
Lake Titicaca
Shared between Peru and Bolivia, Lake Titicaca is famous for being the highest navigable lake in the world. It is also one of the largest lakes in the world with 3,232 square miles of water and the second largest freshwater lake in South America. With an average altitude of 3810 meters above sea level, Lake Titicaca is a great tourist attraction for nature and history lovers. As one of Bolivia’s most beautiful places and most treasured monuments, Lake Titicaca is an ideal place for great photographic opportunities.
Sajama National Park
Sajama National Park is Bolivia’s oldest national park, located northwest of Oruro. It borders Lauca National Park in Chile. With the unstoppable Nevado Sajama peak (the highest in Bolivia), hot springs, scenic lagoons and mountain climbing routes, it is a privileged location for photographers and nature lovers.
La Paz
La Paz is the seat of government in Bolivia and a great introduction to Bolivia’s diversity. The city sits in a crater of clay and sandstone surrounded by the high peaks of the Altiplano mountains and the majestic Illimani towering above it. The city’s new urban cable car system is the highest in the world. The neighboring city of El Alto is home to the world’s highest international airport at 4058 meters (about 13300 feet), while the lowest and richest residential area is still at about 3100 meters (10170 feet), so La Paz is best explored at a leisurely pace.
